Yes, it's true that we're working to develop an internet 'religion', with values and codes of behavior related to the Web and other areas of Hyperspace. However, it's also true that this all started as a light-hearted joke that took on a life of its own. Never forget that.
To carry on the tradition of taking an older concept and applying Internet-related innovations, we would like to bring to you a poetry form developed by Kyle during one very odd morning - |-|4||{|_|, a new form of leet haiku.
The intent of |-|4||{|_| is to encourage creativity and poetry that has freeform vocabulary and charactersets, formed within a few somewhat strict guidelines. There are to be three lines of five syllables, then seven, then five. Ideally, the first line will initiate an idea, the second will build on that idea, and the third will either close the idea, or introduce tangential imagery.
The themes of |-|4||{|_| should be relevant to technology and how people relate to or through computers. The poems can use leet slang and patterns, but they don't have to. They really ought to be written in some variation of 'leetspeak', though there is no one characterset that must be used.
That said, the Nexus of NOW is all about personal freedom to innovate, so |-|4||{|_| will end up evolving to be what the poet says it is, really. This page is intended to serve as a guide for the 'Official Standards', a framework for others to use to develop their own creative style.
You're invited to share some of your own |-|4||{|_| here in the Official Thread.
Before introducing Kyle's sample |-|4||{|_|, we should first introduce Kyle's (`/|*3/2, or leetcypher. Inspired by the character mutations that others have done, Kyle felt like devising her own characterset that used no actual letters. We're not sure why.
