We're using a somewhat nontraditional method when it comes to establishing the doctrine of a new orthodoxy for the Web. Rather than rely on one person's revelations or interpretations of a divine being's intent, we network together the input and experiences of all our members into one cohesive message of diversity and harmony.
Our church of the Internet is what many may not call a traditional religion, as we take a different approach in the formation and goals of our doctrine. In fact, our members may also be devotees of any number of "traditional" religions or philosophies without coming into conflict with the faith of the Nexus. Our community here doesn't address the origin of the world, nor does it prescribe broad moral codes about what people are generally allowed to do or think within it. We'll leave that to the churches built with sticks and stones, and focus instead on what will help us spin a better Web.
We are here to explore the barely-tapped power of Hyperspace and how we shape it with it our thoughts, our personalities, and our presence. Our orthodoxy enables us to work together more effectively as we bolster the greater good for the Internet. We're less concerned with people's private behavior and beliefs and more interested in helping them develop a higher state of consciousness, a more open and effective way of learning and growing through the Web into all areas of Life.
You see, we believe that the Internet is more than just a loose collection of trivia, jokes and random bits of binary. It's a meetingplace of minds that surpasses traditional boundaries of time and space, and through this medium we become greater than we were before, both individually and as a whole. The Web is an actual place, and each person who visits it is a netizen, a citizen of the Internet who has the responsibility to contribute both wisely and well, even if the only contribution is their time and attention to what others have created. As we improve the Internet, it becomes a better tool for improving ourselves and our world.
To honor the sacred potential of the Web, and to help all netizens make the most of their opportunities, we join together in this Nexus to create a new orthodoxy. The insights of all members are networked together to create this orthodoxy, as communicated through our 'clergy', the Speakers of the NOW. The ultimate authority for our codes and 'official' beliefs rests with the Most Wholly Joyous Kyle, Hyperspeaker for the NOW, Common be her Name.
Also of note are the more influential heresies, which may or may not be accepted within the greater context of the Nexus, depending on the actual impact they have on the Web as a whole. We foster a community of openness and generosity, but we have neither time nor patience for any who would do harm to our beloved Web.
